Hey everyone,
In addition to translating With You (don’t mind this shameless plug) which will be mainly be translated by Mango and DRY, Mango and I will be translating Master of Monsters from the beginning. Starting from next week (spring break) we should be able to get a regular schedule going, especially because these chapters are much shorter than those of With You, but no promises.
As with With You, we will be placing large emphasis on ensuring both quality and readers without an Asian cultural background can grasp all the subtleties, although the content of Master of Monsters (fantasy) will likely make the second goal unnecessary.
Anyways, onto the chapter!

Enjoy!

why start from the beginning when there was already a perfectly good batch already done?

We’re mainly doing this for fun/practice. We understand that some people aren’t interested in rereading it again, and that’s cool.

If its about the quality Re:translation have done a good job imo
why not do it where they left it off?

We’re mainly doing this for practice/fun. Producing things that a lot of people would be interested in reading isn’t our primary goal, which would turn away some, if not most, people from reading, which is perfectly fine.

I think they translate the LN which is not translated yet. It’s more detailed or edited than the WN version.

Ok my bad. It’s the WN.

I think you can find the first 3 or 4 LN volumes on raw-zip.com if you are interested.

It’s rare that I’ve seen retranslations actually reach the current translation point. The big key to success was that the original translation had been MTL’d and was really horrible to start. So it was like they were never translated to begin with.
As for those that failed, I can think of 2 right off the bat:
– Duke’s Daughter
– That Person Later On

Also we wanted to pick one that we all really wanted to read/translate, so we ended up here.

I’m fine with reading it all over again. Let’s do this.

On Novals update though it would appear that sad Hoovey is already translating it from where it was left off.

Based on my understanding, translating from the start is cool with NU.

I think you should just continue it rather than start from the beginning
Because it is not a matter of translation but the story

Please dont start from the begining. Just start where they left off. We are eager to know whats happens next and if you start from the begining we gonna have to wait another couple of years to continue to read the part where the former translator left off.

As a someone that once tried to pick up an abandoned project, there’s some of probably reason why he decided to re-translate it :
-mainly glossary, especially novels with fantasy aspect, some translators translate words like names, technique, or similiar meaning words mahou, majutsu, maryoku, mana, katsuryoku, chikara differently……
So, to match the previous translator, you need to read the raw and compare it to previously translated chapter, which more or less re-translating it…..
-each translators have different style of translation…
Some translate it word-by-word and some change the phrase as long as they nail the meaning (especially proverbs)…..
Rather than adjusting to previous translators, maybe it’s better to re-translate it together, especially when only some chapter are previously translated…..
-about the success of re-translation, it’s more about the perseverance of the translator, rather than previously translated chapter….
Many of translator are doing it for hobby anyway, rather than money. But, sure, seeing so little people saw your page is a bit disheartening

I haven’t been taking care of everything since I’ve been travelling recently. Thanks for providing the perspective!

Thanks for your work.
To the people who want to read ahead: sab hoovy is continuing it from where raising the dead left it. So i don’t see the problem. We get to continue reading it AND a retranslation. What more can we ask for?
If i remember correctly, some of the chapters already translated were not thet good in quality, so i’m pretty happy with this. It has been so long since i read this that i’ll have to re-read all old chapters, and now they have better quality (maybe, i haven’t read this one yet).
